Leeds Bradford International AirportThe BriefTo create report and accounts documents that not only deliver the organisation’s financial results, but also to give stakeholders, analysts, the press and the general public an insight to the business, its performance and its future plans. Our ResponseIn the first year Brahm designed the report and accounts, we developed the theme of ’24-hours in the life of’ to convey life in the airport around the clock. We commissioned a huge photo-shoot at the airport over a number of days and nights. The reportage style photography captured not only the activity we all see when we travel through a typical busy airport, but life behind the scenes and the jobs necessary to ensure the airport operates smoothly 24 hours a day.
Our approach in the second year revolved around an internal initiative at the airport recognising employees’ special achievements and dedication. We called it ‘Going the extra mile’ and featured special staff at the airport such as a customer services adviser who saved a life using a defibrillator, and a cleaner who averted possible disaster by extinguishing a fire in a waste bin. The ResultsThe success of both reports was undoubtedly down to the simplicity and clarity of the financial accounts, teamed with a genuinely fascinating and visually lively report section at the front. The 2000/2001 report and accounts won the KPMG/Yorkshire Insider award for ‘small unlisted company’.
