Somerfield Funky Food Factory

The brief

Brahm was asked to design a range of own-label packaging for Somerfield, to give them a presence in the children’s food market in line with the other multiples.

The brief was to create a concept for a range of meal and snack products aimed at 4-12 year olds. It needed to provide bright, colourful and imaginative packaging that would be credible if children had friends over for tea, or to put in their school lunchbox.

Our solution

Brahm developed the Funky Food Factory concept; a creative and colourful Willy-Wonka style production line producing the food within the packs. It developed a bright and distinctive colour palette to distinguish between categories and each product range had a unique production line. Every product within a range had an individual illustration to convey the specific products, ingredients and flavours.

Where space allowed, packs feature a fun fact or a joke, related to the product. On larger products, such as cereal packs, there were games to enjoy - all helping to keep kids interested in the food on the table.

The outcome

The Funky Food Factory range was launched in 2003 and is being rolled-out across new products.
