Footballpools.com

Client Challenge:

Brahm PR was asked to help raise awareness of the www.footballpools.com website for Littlewoods Pools, specifically to generate awareness of, and drive traffic to, the site from the key audience of 21 to 45-year-old males (particularly those with an interest in football).

Our solution:

For most football fans, following their favourite team is an inherently stressful business, so Brahm developed the idea of the ‘Football Fever Report’ – the first in-depth study into which English League clubs are the most (and least) stressful for fans to follow.

Many ‘stress factors’ were considered, such as promotion and/or relegation battles, losing at home, changes in manager, losing penalty shoot-outs etc.

Using 20 years of statistics and football records, Brahm then created a formula for assessing the stress levels for each club. Detailed reports were produced and circulated to a wide range of sports and news media. It was also made available to download from the footballpools.com site as a way of driving additional traffic.

The report was officially launched to the media at Meadow Lane, home of Notts County – officially the most stressful team to follow.

The Outcomes:
The report was covered by a wide range of TV football programmes, national radio, national newspapers and magazines, as well as more than 160 football websites and blogs.

The number of website visitors rose by more than 400% in the first week following launch, and the number of site registrations rose by more than 300%.
The average number of page views on footballpools.com increased by 45% and the site moved up in the overall site rankings by more than 140,000 places. The number of keyword searches for ‘Littlewoods Pools’ rose 63% versus the previous month.
