Tez Humphries

6 September – 3 October 2007

Barely out of university and twenty three year old Tez Humphreys has already cut (and pasted) himself a place as a seriously talented, emerging star of contemporary British design.

He lives and breathes collage, scouring books, newspapers and magazines, and scraping discarded papers off the streets of Leeds; Humphrey’s creates graphical memento mori, reminding us of our mortality and fragility. “I’m always searching for imperfections”, he explains, however, here the limitations of life are not without humour. Playing on the stereotypes and clichés manifested by modern life, his pictures, like Women From Mars and Happy Family, lift the corners of your mouth. “I take images out of context and place them in less literal circumstances… playing images off one another.”

A graduate of Leeds Met University and a finalist in Brahm’s Yorkshire Students Sh! Awards, he has already been commissioned by eager clients in the UK, Japan and the United States. Whilst his work has recently advertised Budweiser and has appeared in national and international publications such as Dazed & Confused, Computer Arts magazine, Esquire, and Anthem, among others.
