Painting With Light By Kevin J Robertst

6 April - 2 may 2007

Born in Leeds, the photographic artist Kevin J Roberts grew up in the suburban towns of Beeston and Seacroft. His adolescence was marred by a lack of hope due to playing truant, until the winter of 1997, when he discovered photography. In 1999, Roberts was only one of twelve students within the United Kingdom to win a bursary from the Helena Kennedy Foundation, an award for students who struggled through their first attempt of education. Since then, he has studied at the Leeds College of Art and Design and Manchester Metropolitan University, has exhibited nationally, and won various private and public commissions.

Brahm Gallery is proud to present Painting With Light, a series of rich, large-scale, delightfully constructed, photoworks that are a far cry from the bleak shades of Roberts’ past. Inspired by the stained glass at York Minster, this work explores the relationships between liquid and solid, using projected light as the catalyst to explore the fusion of painting and photography. What we see are unearthly, organic, technicolour images, which are unimaginably imaginative.
