Gary John Broome
'Micromacro'
June 6th - July 2nd 2002

Mathematical language has offered us a great understanding of the world around us on many different levels and has often been a continued source of inspiration to me. I often gain ideas from mathematical concepts that lead to my own interpretations and explorations in my paintings.

Scale has been the main subject under investigation in this recent work, as I've found most of my inspiration from two extremes. Microscopic images of cell structures have been a great source of interest, with their subtleties and intricacies that lay beyond the naked eye.

In opposition to this the vastness of outer space has offered an interesting parallel to compare and analyse. It has often struck me how incredible and similar in many aspects, the world appears at these two extremes of scale.

MicroMacro is a set of recent works that explore universal shapes, where language overlaps and intersects.
