Limited Editions – Andy Slater
10 March – 9 April 2008
Artist, Andy Slater, lives and works in Edinburgh and Newcastle. He has exhibited and worked extensively throughout the UK and internationally, and now, for the very first time, his work will be seen in Leeds.
Slater maintains a studio practice as a painter, however, there’ll not be a painting in sight at Brahm Gallery in March. You may find a nod to the traditions of painting – in that stories are narrated in layers – but Slater chooses alternative media to question the worth of material, the weight of love and the wonder of nature.
Three-dimensional objects and embroideries will adorn the space at Brahm Gallery, including the limited editions ‘Arthur Puffin’, a meticulously crafted, hand bound artist’s book about the life of a young puffin, and 'Alchemy', consisting of gold foil wrapped blocks of chocolate moulded from a lead ingot. Whilst the heartrending story of Margaret, one of the principle characters in Goethe’s play, ‘Faust’, is woven into a series of beautiful embroideries.
All works on show will be for sale.
