Corporate Social Responsibility at BrahmBrahm is not a 'corporate' in size, but our commitment to corporate social responsibility is just as great as a multinational. Into our business plan, we have written the following phrase, ensuring that this commitment would be a permanent part of our business strategy: 'We will fulfil our obligation to the community - using our creativity, skills and resources to help bring about demonstrable improvements in the social well being of our region:
Brahm is a regional member of Business in the Community (BITC) and with their guidance we have integrated responsible business practice and an intense programme of community-related and other initiatives into our business. Brahm submits annual reports on its CSR strategy and performance in two industry-standard formats: The BIE Environmental Index and the BITC Corporate Index in which we participated for the first time in 2004. Right to Read was an initiative that consisted of a 3-year pro-bono marketing project, including brand creation, advertising and marketing collateral. This work was finally rewarded in the BITC awards where we won a prestigious 'Example of Excellence' (or 'Big Tick') in the positive impact category. The award was presented to us by HRH The Prince of Wales. St Georges Crypt. We gained a commendation in the BITC Regional Awards for Excellence for our pro-bono work on a book to commemorate one of Leeds oldest charities, St George's Crypt. Other award-winning work was carried out for Meanwood Valley Urban Farm and Breast Cancer Awareness where a poster campaign costing £2,000 created £200,000 worth of media coverage. We are a responsible employer embodying many innovative ideas into our culture. We have integrated a public art space (The Brahm Gallery) into our reception area where local artists can showcase their work, and over the years we have supported scores of fund-raising initiatives that have been organised through empowering our people. As part of our Leeds Cares programme, for example, we take teams of people out into the community to actively engage with local projects and the local community.
